Durbuy, generations of award-winning chefs
Alongside Durbuy’s heritage of history, nature and legends is its fame as a gourmet destination. Judge for yourself! In 2015, the most difficult-to-please inspectors of top-quality hotels and restaurants awarded the city’s establishments three “gourmet bibs”, one Michelin star and seven Gault-Millau chef’s hats. The city boasts no less than five four-star hotels and ten three-star hotels. Unusually, Durbuy offers one of the few car parks with specialist equipment for motorhomes in Belgium. The arts of living well and hospitality has been cultivated in this haven of peace for generations, dating back to when Europe’s nobility did the Grand Tour.
The land of green gold
Around Durbuy, nature is as inspiring as it is restorative. Walkers can choose between around forty villages and hamlets, as well as innumerable forests, where they can invigorate their minds as well as their bodies. And the rivers, which once were vital to local boatmen and iron-forgers, have become a key attraction for sustainable leisure tourism. Those who enjoy history and legends should head for the village of Wéris, whose rows of dolmens and standing stones are an unmissable end point for a walk. You certainly cannot explore many other examples of 5,000 year-old funerary architecture. And to bring them right up to date, have you ever heard of telluric currents? Several “geo-biologists” and a South American magus have stated that the telluric currents are particularly strong at Wéris, and perhaps they are ahead of conventional science in this case.
